2025 HBAK Fall Meeting Recap

The 2025 HBAK Fall Meeting brought members from across the state to Lexington for several days of meaningful discussion, connection, and collaboration. From thoughtful policy conversations to moments of celebration and camaraderie, the week showcased the strength and engagement of HBAK's membership and leadership.

The event began Wednesday evening with the annual Past Presidents Dinner at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse in downtown Lexington. The dinner provided an opportunity for former presidents and associate leaders to reconnect, share stories, and reflect on the history and growth of HBAK. The evening also celebrated the induction of Scott Welch and Crystal Newton into the Past Presidents and Associates circle, honoring their leadership, service, and continued commitment to the association.

Thursday's sessions opened with the Executive Committee Meeting, where members discussed key priorities for the association and upcoming opportunities to strengthen housing advocacy across the Commonwealth. The day continued with a legislative update from Amy Wickliffe, Partner at McCarthy Strategic Solutions, who outlined the political landscape heading into the 2026 session and key issues impacting housing and development.

Members then heard from Bluegrass Institute Scholar M. Nolan Gray, who presented “Making Room for the Next Generation of Kentuckians: Lessons on Reform from Across the United States.” His presentation explored how zoning and land-use reforms across the country are helping communities address housing affordability and supply challenges, offering insights and takeaways for Kentucky.

At lunch, members enjoyed an uplifting talk from UK basketball legend Jack “Goose” Givens, who shared inspiring lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and leadership—reminding everyone that success is built on trust, effort, and shared goals.

The afternoon featured the Tools of the Trade panel, where Art Hubbard, Tom Miller, and Laura Mobley-Corn discussed workforce trends and strategies to attract and retain the next generation of skilled professionals in construction. Following the panel, members participated in a strategic planning session, where the four working groups—Governance, Advocacy, Workforce Development, and Communication/Branding—each developed survey questions to gather broader member input. These questions were later presented to the Board for discussion and feedback.

Thursday evening wrapped up with the HIPACK Bowling Tournament and Member Mixer at LexLive, an event filled with friendly competition, laughter, and great energy—all in support of the Housing Industry Political Action Committee of Kentucky (HIPACK). A huge thank-you to everyone who participated and helped make the evening such a success. Your support helps HBAK continue advocating for pro-housing and pro-building industry policies that strengthen communities across the Commonwealth. Congratulations to the BIA CKY BallBarians for taking home the first place trophy!

Friday began with the Emerging Leaders Class of 2025 celebrating their graduation. Congratulations to Art Hubbard, Jordan Wilson, Jared Baker, Will Gary, Jeff Morrett, Chris Reynolds, Jacob Kent, and Jeremy Gribbins on completing the program! HBAK is proud of each of you and grateful for your participation. Applications and recommendation forms are now open for the 2026 Emerging Leaders Class, due December 5. (Click below to apply or recommend a candidate.)

The Fall Meeting concluded with the Board of Directors Meeting, where members heard an important federal update from Congressman Andy Barr as the federal government shutdown continued. Congressman Barr shared insights on the current economic and policy environment and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting housing affordability and the home building industry. The Board also conducted essential association business and discussed priorities for the months ahead.

The Fall Meeting served as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when Kentucky's builders, associates, and industry partners come together. HBAK remains focused on advancing policies, programs, and partnerships that help our members continue to Build Kentucky Together.
